Pump Up Your Happy Hour

Specialty Mojios at Seviche-- there's one for everyone!

It’s almost 5 ‘o clock, it’s Thursday… You’ve made it this far, why not get a jump start on the weekend?! You deserve a happy hour tonight! One of my recent favorites in Pittsburgh happy hours is Seviche. Now, let me tell you why!

For one, their prices are unbeatable. They feature the 5-4-3 deal. For you, this translates into $5 cocktails, $4 glasses of wine, and $3 speciality beers. Take advantage of these happy hour specials every weekday from 5-7 PM.

What’s so great about their cocktails, you ask? What makes them different than any other bar in Pittsburgh? Well, let me tell you! Where else in Pittsburgh can you sip on an original Key Lime Mojito? Or how about a Strawberry Champagne Mojito? A Pisco Sour more your taste? Their scratch bar is SO extensive, most of the drinks on there I’ve never heard of until I started going there after work. If you’re interested in what is in each particular drink I just mentioned, check out some of my other blog articles.

I haven’t yet mentioned the exciting and colorful atmosphere. Relax under the neon lights as you are immersed in a mix of Cuban and West Coast culture.

Not a tapas fan? Never tried them? Seviche has the perfect tapas menu because they offer dishes that cater to anyone’s food preferences or needs. It is a fabulous way to try something you never have before. What’s even better is that during Happy Hour they also offer their gourmet tapas for only $5. You cannot beat this deal!

My point is, Seviche is a great place to go after a long work week or day to unwind and experience something new. I won’t give too much away, though, you have to check this place out for yourself.

Alright–it’s quittin’ time! Don’t waste any time getting over to Seviche tonight for happy hour! You’ve worked hard this week… Enjoy!

A Gift for Your Taste Buds

Seviche's Outside Dining

Seviche's Outside Dining

Odds are, if you’ve heard about Seviche, you’ve heard good things. With a delicious tapas selection and amazing happy hour deals, Seviche is quickly becoming one of the most popular Pittsburgh restaurants. They have a menu unlike any other and almost always put a tasty twist on traditional seviche dishes that you just won’t find anywhere else.

Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice

Haven’t visited Seviche because you’re not sure what to order? Why not try their signature dish: Fire and Ice Seviche. This dish is Seviche’s traditional recipe, but prepared in a spicier way. Made with habanero peppers and red onion, it’s no wonder this dish’s name includes the word “fire.” It’s definitely spicy, but don’t worry because Seviche has balanced it out with a cooling prickly pear granita for an explosion on your taste buds. Prickly pear is the edible fruit of a cactus and flavors the cooling granita, a semi-frozen desert that will take the heat off the Fire and Ice.

The best part about Seviche is that you can pick your own fish. Raw fish choices include #1 Ahi Tuna, Scottish Salmon, Hamachi, Bahamian Conch, Seasonal Oyster and Fish of the day. Semi-cooked fish are Shrimp, Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, Octopus, Diver Scallops, Mussels and Grilled Calamari. This way, you can always customize your individual seviche to your personal tastes. If you’re in the mood for seviche with a twist, visit Seviche in the Cultural District.

Lessons on the Sonomapolitan

Seviche

If there’s one thing Seviche is known for outside of their superb tapas bar, it’s their drinks. Not only do they have a huge selection of wine and beer, they also have an array of cocktails and one of the longest mojito lists you’ve ever seen. If you go there for happy hour, you won’t be bored. What you may be, however, is indecisive. That’s where this blog comes in. The important thing to remember is that you really can’t go wrong when ordering drinks at Seviche, especially during happy hour where beer is $3, glasses of wine are $4 and cocktails are just $5. But it helps to have a little background information. So today, we’ll focus on the Sonomapolitan.

Sonomapolitan

Like most of Seviche’s menu items, the Sonomapolitan is a bit of a twist on a traditional Cosmopolitan. It is the original martini of the Sonoma Grille, Seviche’s brother restaurant, if you will, in the Cultural District. Made with Crioc vodka, Grand Marnier and grape juice, the Sonomapolitan is anything but ordinary. It’s sweet with somewhat of an orange flavor to it. It is, however a very strong martini and will creep up on you in spite of its delicious taste.

As stated earlier, Seviche has a wide variety of tastes from very sweet to slightly bitter so if martini’s aren’t your favorite, you’ll definitely find something for you. Head on down to one of the best Pittsburgh restaurants for a happy hour you won’t forget!

Eat, Pray, Love <3

Eat, Pray, Love the Book

“But is it such a bad thing to live like this for just a little while? Just for a few months of one’s life, is it so awful to…nap in a garden, in a patch of sunlight, in the middle of the day, right next to your favorite fountain? And then to do it again the next day?”  This quote is taken from the new upcoming hit movie based on the book “Eat, Pray, Love.”  All of us would love to get away for awhile and do the things we’d love to do day after day.  Who says we can’t?!

Take Elizabeth Gilbert for example who the story “Eat, Pray, Love” is centered around.  She has everything shes ever wanted yet she still finds herself lost and wanting more.  Liz finally steps out of her comfort zone after her divorce and goes on a quest for self-discovery that shes been longing for.  She discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy, the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.

Spice up your night at Seviche!

You don’t have to travel to Italy for the nourishment of truly good food or any other country for that matter because Seviche, a Nuevo Latino tapas restaurant and bar, is located on 930 Penn Avenue.  It is a destination not too far that will give us the nourishment we need not to mention a good time.  Seviche is home to one popular Pittsburgh happy hour where all come together to enjoy a night out.  Like Elizabeth, we are all searching for something that will spice up our lives and we can’t ever seem to place it.  Seviche is the answer to your problems if you don’t have the money to go to another country.  They have all that to offer and more!  Eat, Pray, Love is released August 13th and is a movie everyone should go see, but don’t forget to end your evening with a nice night cap at Seviche!

Find Your Perfect Drink

Seviche

If you’re in the mood for a mojito, then Seviche is where you want to be. They have  one of the best mojitos in Pittsburgh and also offer delicious mojito variations. Seviche puts fruity twists on the mojito so they can find a mojito for your mood any day.

Want proof? Go to Seviche’s website and under their Bebidas tab you can take the Moodjito quiz. Just answer a few simple questions and Seviche will prescribe the right mojito for you. After answering these simple questions, Seviche will let you know their opinion on what mojito is best for you.

Beat the Heat!

Enjoy a refreshing mixed berry mojiot!

Summer is more than half way over and you may have realized that you haven’t even had a chance to kick back and enjoy it. With another heat wave coming through there are definitely more beautiful days available to take advantage of. If you don’t have a chance to to get to the beach, there’s plenty of hot spots around the city to cool off in the heat.

I just went to Sandcastle the other weekend and had a phenomenal time. They have more than just slides, so I spent most of my time in the lazy river and by the pool. The tickets were a little pricey, but it was definitely worth the splurge. For a more fugile way to get in the sun, head to a wave pool. I’ve gone to Boyce Park and tickets are only $5. You definitely save a lot and it’s still a great way to cool off.

If you can’t get out of the city, atleast take advantage of the outdoors. Seviche offers outdoor seating so while you’re enjoying the warm weather, you can cool off with one of their amazing mojitos. If you don’t know which to choose, I definitley recommend the Berrymn Mojito. It’s sweet and fruity and will compliment any summer night. Come any week night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Pittsburgh’s Best Happy Hour.

Something Delicious

Seviche

Somehow, Seviche keeps finding ways to combine a bundle of unique, sometimes obscure ingredients to create something delicious. Sometimes, the ingredients used sound like they couldn’t possibly go together, much less create something that actually tastes good. But have faith in Seviche’s menu and chefs. They know what they’re doing.

Cuban Sushi Rolls (Courtesey of Burghilicious.com)

Take the Cuban Sushi Roll for example. Stuffed with salmon, calabaza, jicama and avocado and topped with spicy sushi tuna, crispy malanga frizzle, Siracha mayo and citrus ponzu, and wrapped in sticky rice and nori roll, this sushi sounds like a real mouthful of crazy flavors that may not work together. But don’t let the amount of ingredients intimidate you: this local favorite is sure to have you begging for more. The Cuban Sushi Roll is a real mouthful of flavor and one of Seviche’s best dishes.

So don’t let the menu descriptions intimidate you. Seviche pays very close attention to detail and always makes tasty food with just the right amount of zing and unique ingredients. They’re dedicated to making authentic Latin cuisine, but aren’t afraid to add a few twists of their own. So make sure you stop by one of the best Pittsburgh restaurants and be sure to try Seviche’s delicious Cuban Sushi Rolls.
